The short version

  • You pay four dollars once and get to use Mug, including every future update, for good.

  • Use it for yourself or your work. Just don't resell it, pull it apart to clone it, or break the law with it.

  • Mug is sold as-is. If something goes wrong, the most we owe you is the four dollars back.

The longer version says the same things, with the words a lawyer needs to see.

The deal

These terms are the agreement between you and Zum, LLC ("we," "us"), the maker of Mug, a Windows screenshot app. By installing or using Mug, you're agreeing to them. If you don't agree, don't install it; that's the whole opt-out.

If you're accepting these terms on behalf of a company, for example as the IT admin rolling Mug out to a fleet, you're confirming you're allowed to agree on that company's behalf.

Your license

When you buy Mug, we grant you a license to use it. It's perpetual (it doesn't expire) and non-exclusive (you're not the only one who has it). One purchase covers one person across the machines they personally use, or one seat in a volume license. Buying for a team is covered by your seat count; see pricing.

What you can do

  • Install and use Mug on the computers you work on.

  • Take screenshots, annotate them, and do whatever you like with the images you make. They're yours; we claim nothing in them.

  • Deploy it across your organization, up to the number of seats you bought.

What you can't do

  • Resell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute Mug as your own product.

  • Reverse-engineer or decompile it to build a competing tool, except where the law specifically says you may.

  • Strip out the licensing, or share a single seat across more people than you paid for.

The free trial

Mug lets you take three screenshots before you buy, free and without an account. The trial is offered as-is so you can decide whether Mug is worth four dollars to you. After three, you'll be asked to buy. That's the only nudge.

Price & payment

Mug costs $4 USD, one time, for an individual license. Volume pricing for teams is on the pricing page. Prices are in US dollars; applicable taxes are added at checkout.

If you buy through the Microsoft Store, Microsoft processes the payment under their terms. If you buy directly or in volume, we process it ourselves. Either way, your purchase is covered by our refund policy: fourteen days, no questions.

Updates

Updates are included with your purchase, for as long as we keep making them. We'll add things, fix things, and occasionally retire a feature that isn't earning its keep. We aim never to remove something you rely on without a good reason and a heads-up in the release notes.

We're not promising Mug will be developed forever, but while it is, the updates are yours at no extra cost.

Acceptable use

Mug is a tool. Like any tool, what you capture with it is your responsibility. Don't use Mug to record things you have no right to record, to violate someone's privacy, or to break any law that applies to you. We don't monitor what you screenshot, so this one's on the honor system, but it's still in writing.

Provided as-is

We build Mug carefully and use it ourselves every day. That said, it's provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We don't promise it will be flawless, uninterrupted, or perfectly suited to whatever specific thing you have in mind.

If Mug misbehaves, tell us at wtf@mug.win. We'd genuinely like to fix it. But the law requires us to say, plainly, that we can't guarantee it never will.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Zum, LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Mug, including lost data or lost time.

Our total liability to you, for any claim relating to Mug, is capped at the amount you paid us, which we'll remind you was four dollars. We are not in a position to ruin anyone, and we'd prefer to keep it that way.

Ending the license

You can stop using Mug at any time by uninstalling it. Your license ends if you materially break these terms, for instance by reselling Mug or cracking its licensing. If that happens, the limits and disclaimers above still apply to whatever came before.

Changes & law

We may update these terms as Mug evolves. When we do, we'll change the date at the top and note anything significant in the release notes. Continuing to use Mug after a change means you accept the updated terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing here takes away consumer-protection rights you have where you live that can't be waived.

Mug is made by Zum, LLC in Salt Lake City, Utah. Confused by any of this, or think we contradicted ourselves? Email hi@mug.win and a human will untangle it.
